RadioShack Shuffles Management

Fort Worth, Texas – RadioShack senior executives Henry Chiarelli, Chuck Thompson and Dave Martella have left the company effective last week.

Chiarelli, most recently senior division VP/emerging channels, had been instrumental in launching the company’s e-commerce arm, RadioShack.com, while Thompson served as VP/merchandising for the No. 5 CE retailer. Martella’s most recent post was VP/strategic development, connecting places.

A RadioShack spokesperson offered no explanation for the surprise departures, and said that no one would be named to their posts. Rather, their responsibilities will be “handled by other people in the organization.”

The exodus follows months of reorganization at the company, which has lately been beset by sales and earnings pressure as demand for subscription services and computer products has softened. Earlier this year RadioShack restructured into three strategic business units (SBUs) built around its core businesses: connecting people (telecommunications), connecting places (the connected home and office) and connecting things (parts, accessories and batteries). The SBUs report to senior division VP Arvin Goldberg, who joined the company in March from AT&T Wireless.

Earlier, RadioShack promoted company veteran Lou Provost to the newly created position of executive division VP/sales channels, with responsibility for all 7,200 company-owned and dealer/franchise stores plus each of the chain’s “emerging channels,” including RadioShack.com, catalog sales and commercial sales.
