Pro Audio Releases Custom Speakers

1/31/2011 01:14:31 PM Eastern

Huntington Beach,
Calif. -- Pro Audio Technology
is following through on plans to increase its focus on multi-room-audio
products with the launch of new speakers designed for in-wall and in-ceiling
installation.

Four new Pro Audio speakers include an in-wall speaker, ceiling speaker with angled baffle, shallow-depth in-wall subwoofer and in-room subwoofer.

The new speakers are designed to bring the
company's high-output performance to lower price points, the company said. Like
other Pro speakers, the new in-wall SCRS-5iw and in-ceiling SCRS-25iw are
designed to be driven by DSP-equipped amplifiers that include digital crossover
filters, speakers, digital boundary compensation, and digital equalization. The
speakers can be driven in biamp mode.

A new in-wall
subwoofer, and freestanding subwoofer, round out the product launches.

The company
previously focused on large floor-standing and shelf-mount speakers designed
for placement behind acoustically transparent screens and stretched-fabric
walls. However, the company also offered two bezel-less in-wall speakers and an
in-wall sub, all of which dealers have used for home theater and multi-room
installs, the company said.

The new speakers were
shown as prototypes at the CEDIA Expo and their designs have been finalized.
The company is now taking orders.

The speakers include
the two-way SCRS-5iw in-wall speaker with integrated metal back-box and
paintable bezel-less metal grille. It features 0.75-inch compression driver,
which is mounted in an elliptical horn for broad high- frequency dispersion,
and a 5-inch woofer with ferrite magnet and an oversized voice coil. The
high-sensitivity design delivers output levels of 110dB and a dynamic range
typically associated with larger floorstanding speakers, the company said. It's
only 3.88 inches deep for installation in a standard 2x4 stud bay.

The SCRS-25iw
in-ceiling speaker is the company's first in-ceiling speaker with an angled
baffle to deliver sound to the listener's seating position in a home theater
and in a multi-room-audio application. It also features paintable bezel-less
metal grille and incorporates two 5-inch woofers and the 0.75-inch horn-loaded
compression tweeter. Output is 115dB. The included back box fits between
12-inch on-center joists.

A new compact
in-wall sub, designed for retrofit installation in a traditional 2x4 stud bay,
is the LFC-12im. It features 12-inch driver, neodymium motor and 5-inch voice coil
to deliver 115dB max output. It's also bezel-less.

The new compact
in-room sub, the LFC-14sm, features long-throw 15-inch driver in a black
textured-paint finish or a wood-veneer finish. It's designed for in-room
placement, whereas the company's previously available enclosed subwoofers have
been intended for placement behind a display screen.

The company changed its name last year from
Professional Home Cinema to align its name with plans for more multi-room-audio
products.
