Fremont, Calif. — Flash memory manufacturer PQI introduced its latest imaging peripheral, the Intelligent Frame digital photo frame
The frame uses a 5.6-inch TFT LCD screen to display images in the standard 4-inch by 6-inch size. Photos can be transferred to the unit’s 32MB of internal memory through a USB connection or through a 6-in-1 memory card slot that is compatible with CompactFlash, Microdrive, SmartMedia, SD, MMC, Memory Stick and Memory Stick PRO. Photos can also be viewed directly off a memory card.
The screen has a resolution of 320 by 234 and features a front-mounted sensor that detects insufficient light and turns off power to conserve energy and protect the LCD screen.
Photos can be displayed in either a slide show or in continual single-photo mode with an adjustable time delay and eight transition effects.
The unit can also display motion-JPEG video in .AVI and .MOV formats. There is an external speaker connection for adding audio.
The frame, which is shipping now with a $279 suggested retail price, includes a foldout stand, wall mounts and a decorative bezel that can be replaced to match a particular decor. There are 15 ready-made designs included in the bundled software CD.
