Portable ATSC TV Arrives

Minneapolis — Best Buy is offering under its Insignia private-label brand, one of the first portable TVs to include a built-in ATSC tuner.

The tiny set, model NS-7HTV ($199.99), features a 7-inch LCD panel and both NTSC and digital ATSC tuners for reception of both analog and digital broadcasts.

Currently, a number of companies are at work to develop a next-generation standard for tuning ATSC stations when in motion. See: LG mobile DTV system to debut and Samsung demos mobile DTV format at CES.

The Insignia mobile includes a more conventional ATSC tuner.

Images are displayed in 480i standard-definition resolution at 234 by 480 pixels.

The set features a built-in telescoping antenna and adds an RF antenna input jack. An E-port for an optional game pad and an earphone jack are also included.

The NS-7HTV measures 1.25 inches deep by 5.8 inches tall by 7.3 inches wide. It weighs 2.3 pounds.
