Baltimore – Polk Audio will go to International CES with live musical performances by five independent acts at South Hall 1 booth 21130.
The artists will perform during show hours from Jan. 8-10, 2013, in a soundproof booth so they can be heard over the noise of the show floor. Also to help listeners focus on the music, Polk will create a specially designed seating area in which attendees will listen to the acts through the company’s UltraFocus active noise-canceling on-ear and in-ear headphones.
The performances include musicians and songwriters said by Polk to “embody the independent spirit of Polk’s hometown.” Four of the five acts are Baltimore-based, including the June Star band, "honey-voiced songstress" Ellen Cherry, “cosmic soul cowboy” Bosley Brown and rock-and-roll musician Mike Ruocco. Rounding out the lineup is St. Louis-based The Incurables, said to straddle the line between Wings and the Wallflowers.
While the groups play, Polk will show new products at Venetian Hotel suite 30-111.
“We’re a homegrown Baltimore-based audio company, and even though we sell worldwide, we haven’t lost our independent roots,” said senior sales VP Ben Newhall. “As we celebrate over 40 years of audio innovation, we want to pay tribute to the independent spirit and love of music that continue to define every product we make.
Baltimore is famous as a breeding ground for many well-known independent artists, including John Waters and Frank Zappa, Newhall said. “We’re proud of our roots, and that’s why we’re bringing some of our city’s best musicians to a national forum.”
