Polaroid Launches Online Printing Service

Concord, Mass. — Fresh off news of its soon-to-be-completed acquisition by its licensee Petters Group, Polaroid announced the launch of an online photo site that will offer digital photofinishing and other digital photography services.

The Web site, called PolaroidPics, lets users archive, e-mail and print their digital images. Polaroid offers print fulfillment through another online vendor, Club Photo.

The site is free to users. It uses an events calendar so consumers can organize and share their pictures by a specific month and day. The events calendar also lets consumers save guest lists associated with an event, and to send invitations, announcements and thank you cards.

The site can produce photo prints, mailed directly to consumers, in a variety of sizes in addition to photo gifts such as calendars, mugs, postcards and mousepads.

According to the company, the move into online photofinishing was a means to capitalize on the company’s digital camera business. According to Polaroid, there are over 20 Polaroid-branded digital cameras on retail shelves.
