Philips Reorganizes Business Solutions Unit

Atlanta, Ga. – Philips Consumer Electronics, North America announced the reorganization of its Business Solutions Group, shifting the PC monitor business from Atlanta to Colorado Springs, Colo, while discontinuing sales of front projectors.

Philips said the reorganization was initiated to help the Business Solutions Group focus on building on the success of its branded monitor business in the channel, leveraging Philips’ core competencies in monitors and Philips’ investment in LG.Philips. The group will continue to handle both LCD and CRT PC monitors.

The branded PC monitors business will move from Atlanta to Colorado Springs, where the OEM monitor business is based, by April 1. Additionally, with the increased emphasis on monitors, Philips will discontinue sales of front projectors in the United States, effective in April. Philips will also end distribution of front projectors for the home theater segment, the company said.

According to a Philips spokesperson, the changes will result in the reassignment of some personnel, while others elect to take a company buyout. Less than 10 people will be affected, she said.

Philips said the reorganization is part of its “global business renewal process of the Consumer Electronics division, which aims to simplify the organization, streamline its global processes and take advantage of synergies to improve performance, especially in the areas of service and logistics.”
