Philips Readies Android-Based PMP

Stamford, Conn. - Philips plans to join Samsung in offering
Android-based portable media players (PMPs).

The Philips GoGear Connect at a
suggested $179, is due in September with Wi-Fi, ability to download apps from
the Android Market, 3.2-inch capacitive color touchscreen and 720p HD video

A Like Music feature makes it
possible to make playlists that sound great together, a spokesperson noted.
Additional details were unavailable.

Earlier this
year, Samsung
announced plans
to add a pair of Galaxy-brand PMPs to its selection of
Galaxy tablets and smartphones.  The
Wi-Fi-equipped Galaxy Players were scheduled for availability in May. One
features 4-inch screen, and the other features 5-inch screen.
