Denver, Colo. –
unveiled two weatherproof WG series cameras in the Pentax Optio
WG-2 and Optio WG-2 GPS digital compact cameras.
The models are waterproof to 40 feet, dust-proof, freeze-proof to
14 degrees Fahrenheit and shock-resistant from 5 feet. Each will record FullHD
1080/30p (H.264) video and include a 16-megapixel back-side illuminated CMOS
image sensor.
Both WG-2 models have been improved to yield less noise than
previous versions, the company said.
In addition, a digital microscope mode is enhanced with one
additional macro LED (total of six lights) to focus as close as 1 centimeter
from the subject.
In the WG-2 GPS version, a newly designed GPS module is added
offering a shorter time lag and longer battery life.
In addition, both cameras feature a new optional SportMount Chest
Harness for hands-free HD movie capture.
Other outstanding WG-2 features include a wide-angle 5x (28-140mm
35mm equivalent) internal optical zoom lens; 3-inch 460,000-dot LCD; hardened
cover with SP coating; an HDMI port (Micro, Type-D); pixel track, digital movie
shake reduction; fast face detection; extended dynamic range, auto focus assist
lamp, smile capture and blink detection.
A handheld night snap mode produces a single blur-free, composite
image from four images of the same scene.
Both versions are available in a choice of several color options.
The Optio WG-2 (shipping
in March at a $350 suggested retail) is offered in black or vermillion red, and
the Optio WG-2 GPS (March, $400) is offered in a choice of shiny orange or
gloss white.
The new SportMount Chest Harness will be priced at $50 and should
be available by late spring or early summer 2012.
