Panasonic To Use Olympics Sponsorship For 3D Promotions

Secaucus, N.J. - Panasonic said this week that it once
again plans to leverage its position as the official audio/video sponsor of the
Winter Olympics to market and promote its new technologies, including 3D
products.

The company said it will be highly
visible at the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver
Feb. 12-28, when it plans to host a "Full HD 3D Theater Pavilion" in the David Lam
Park.

The showcase is
expected to demonstrate new Panasonic 3D products including 3D-ready Blu-ray
Disc players and a planned 50-inch 1080p plasma set and home-theater system.

Panasonic will
underscore its sponsorship prior to the games by offering an online contest
that will award the winner a trip to the games. The company is hosting a
special Web site featuring profiles
of athletes working to win a place in the games, with an opportunity for
enthusiasts to share comments and observations. One of the fan bloggers will
win a free Olympics trip.

Panasonic has been
contributing to the Olympic Games with its state-of-the-art digital A/V
technologies since the Calgary 1988 Olympic Winter Games. The company recently
extended its global sponsorship commitment through 2016.

Panasonic is also
contributing video-production equipment for the event. Panasonic's DVCPRO HD was selected as the recording format for the
2010 Winter Games. The company will deliver large numbers of broadcasting
equipment, such as the P2HD series, a solid-state memory news-gathering system.

All international
video signals for the 2010 Winter Games will be produced and distributed in HD
format from the International Broadcasting Center (IBC) to rights-holding
broadcasters around the world.

In addition, the
HD video signals will also be used for the first time for display on the LED
large-screen display systems in the competition venues and BC Place Stadium
where the Opening and Closing Ceremonies will take place.

Panasonic said the
2010 Winter Games will be the first "HD Olympic Winter Games" with all the
Olympic videos to be delivered completely in HD.

At BC Place
Stadium in downtown Vancouver, Panasonic will install three LED video screens
with a total display area of 243 m2 (approximately 1.4 times the size used in
the Torino 2006 Main Stadium).

Panasonic is also
installing professional sound systems and plasma display panels.

In addition, Panasonic will provide
high-quality, high-sensitivity surveillance camera systems for the indoor and
outdoor Olympic facilities, the surrounding areas and highways.
