Panasonic In BD Authoring

Secaucus, N.J. — Panasonic announced that it has started a new U.S. authoring service for BD-ROM discs.

The company said it will begin production of entertainment titles on Blu-ray Discs for movie studios at Panasonic Hollywood Laboratory (PHL) in Universal City, Calif. on July 1.

Disc authoring is a required step in the production of Blu-ray or DVD movie discs before the physical replication process of the discs can be performed.

The company said it is using its MPEG-4 Audio Video Codec (AVC) encoder and Blu-ray-Java authoring system to expedite production of 1,080p BD-ROM discs. The combination of the encoder and authoring system enables Blu-ray title creators to reproduce high-quality video with an easy-to-use graphical user interface based on the Java system, Panasonic said.

Panasonic said the BD-Java authoring system “offers a variety of interactive features such as pop-up menus, allowing for easy content navigation during playback.”
