Palm Launches Cable TV Campaign

Las Vegas – In an effort to promote the Palm as a mainstream CE product, Palm announced at Comdex today a new holiday advertising campaign that will highlight the utility of the Palm in everyday life. In addition, the campaign will also highlight Secure Digital (SD) technology as part of a joint marketing effort with Panasonic.

The promotion, valued at more than $10 million in marketing impact, will run on national cable TV, with Canadian and some broadcast network coverage as well as online, through January 7, 2002, Palm said. The ads are also positioned to promote a holiday offer for a free 16MB Panasonic SD expansion card and $250 worth of coupons with the purchase of a Palm m125, m500 or m505.

Said Ken Wirt, senior vice president of solutions group marketing for the Palm, “We’re moving from the mobile professional to the mobile majority.”

In a separate announcement Palm and Rand McNally announced a marketing alliance to deliver a co-branded mobile travel solutions and debuted the PalmPak Travel Card: Rand McNally Road Atlas for Palm m505, m500 and m125 handhelds.

Palm also announced a technology alliance with RSA Security Inc. to enhance the security of the Palm OS platform through the use of RSA BSAFE encryption software.
