Monday a low-cost 75-lumen DLP plug-and-play projector positioned as the second
unit in the mass-market, portable PlayTime line.
Model PT105 ($229 suggested retail) is said to offer simple
operation and the ability to project up an a 140-inch image size for connection
to Blu-ray/ DVD players, set-top boxes, computers, video games, and other
devices supporting HDMI, VGA or composite video output.
“The response to our PlayTime line has been very strong,” said
Jon Grodem, Optoma’s marketing senior director, “and we’re expecting that the
PT105’s increased power and connectivity, coupled with its affordable price,
will appeal to a lot of consumers.”
The PT105 offers WVGA (854- by 480-pixel) resolution, a 1,000:1
contrast ratio and an LED lamp source with up to a 20,000-hour lifespan.
Other features include a built-in 1.5-watt speaker, and an
audio-in input for connection to an external audio system.
“Optoma has been the driving force in what some analysts are
calling new era projectors — these use new illumination technologies to
provide good image quality with as little lumens as 500 lumens or below. We’ve
felt for some time that it was important to lower the entry barrier for new
users, and with products like our PlayTime and Pico projectors, we’re proving
it.”
The compact portable unit weighs 1.9 pounds and ships with a 90-day
limited parts and labor warranty.
