Upper Saddle River, N.J. — Onkyo introduced an HD Radio module for its latest receivers and a new iPhone/iPod dock that is its first model with Works with iPhone designation.
The accessories work with two receivers introduced by Onkyo earlier this year bearing a new universal port
(U-Port), requiring only a single-wire connection for add-on devices.
The Works with iPhone dock, model UP-A1, charges an iPhone or iPod, and lets users control their portable via the remote on the Onkyo A/V receiver. The dock allows component video and audio, and is compatible with nearly every iPod player, including the iPhone 3G and iPod Touch. The UP-A1 will be available in May at a suggested retail of $109.
It is joined by an Onkyo UP-HT1 HD Radio tuner module that integrates directly with Onkyo U-Port receivers and remotes. The UP-HT1 will be available in July at a suggested retail of $159.
The HD Radio module can also be daisy-chained to add other U-Port modules to the system.
Both the dock and HD Radio tuner work with the TX-SR507 and TX-SR607 receivers with U-Port — a feature expected to be added to most new Onkyo receivers in the future, according to a spokesman.
For the non-U-Port receivers, Onkyo has also begun shipping its third generation dock for an iPod. It comes with a dedicated remote and includes charging capability, component video and analog audio outputs and has on screen display capability via a TV.
The dock is also compatible with Onkyo’s RI (Remote Interactive) protocol, so it may be used with the receiver’s remote. The DS-A3 carries a suggested retail of $139.
