introduced Thursday three
additions to its Pen Micro Four Thirds mirrorless interchangeable-lens camera
line, including a new flagship model and the line’s smallest model to date.
The Pen E-P3 ($900
suggested retail for the body and a choice of two kit lenses) will stand as the
line’s new flagship model when it ships in August and includes the lines first
3-inch OLED touchscreen.
The Pen Lite E-PL3
(pricing and availability to be announced) features a tilting 3-inch LCD. It
also offers six in-camera art filters
The Pen Mini E-PM1
(pricing and availability to be announced) is Olympus’ smallest and lightest
interchangeable-lens camera. It will ship in six color options (purple, pink,
brown, white, silver and black) and features a simplified user interface and
streamlined button structure for ease of use, in a form factor rivaling advance
point-and-shoot models.
The Mini Pen also
includes a 3-inch 460,000-pixel display, improved user interface and six art filters.
The additions
expand Olympus’ selection of Micro Four Thirds mirror interchangeable-lens
cameras to six models.
Key attributes in
all three models include a 12.3-megapixel Live MOS Micro Four Thirds image
sensor with fine detail processing technology, and Olympus’ TruePic VI image
processor with Real Color Technology for faster natural color capturing; FAST
Auto Focus system with Tracking AF; and Full HD 1080/60i video recording in
AVCHD format with Dolby AC-3 audio recording.
The cameras also
feature a variety of Art Filter variations and enhancements.
In addition all of
the Art Filters can be applied to both still shots and videos.
All models also
record to SDHC, SDXC and UHS-1 memory cards with Eye-Fi compatibility.
The flagship E-P3 camera
is designed for hobbyists and advanced photographers looking for strong image
quality, fast image capture performance, and total creative control from a
small and light camera body that is easy to carry around.
The Pen E-P3 features
a classic-styled all-metal body and has a built-in pop-up flash.
The camera will
record dynamic 3D photos using a 3D photo mode that uses a pan and sweep
shooting action to record left-and-right-eye perspectives. Recording occurs in
Scene mode with art filter, and 3D data is processed in-camera as MPO files.
The E-P3 also
offers nine art filters for creative in-camera effects and a new rotational
dial on the back to enable rapid changes to menu settings. A built-in level gauge
helps in balancing the camera for panorama shooting or architectural work.
The Olympus Pen
E-P3 will ship in two kits: one including a movie and still compatible (MSC) ED
m14-42mm II R f3.5/5.6 zoom lens (28mm-84mm equivalent). The other kit features
an m17mm f2.8 (34mm equivalent) lens. Both carry the same pricing.
To support the Pen camera family, Olympus also
introduced the M. Zuiko Digital ED 12m f2.0 lens (24mm equivalent) and the M.
Zuiko Digital ED 45mm f1.8 lens (90mm equivalent). Accessory pricing will be
announced later.
Also added is the FL-300R
compact flash that functions as a bounce flash and works with a wireless remote.
It will sync with the E-P3’s built-in pop-up flash, or as an alternative to it.
The MCG-2 exchangeable camera grip will be available in black and beige.
The Pen E-P3 will
be available in a choice of black, white and silver body colors, starting in
August.
