OfficeMax To Offer Large-Format Photo Printing

Lake Success, N.Y. — Canon announced today that office retailer OfficeMax will install the company’s Prograf W6400 wide-format inkjet printers to produce photo posters, signage and other large-format graphics.

Initial installation began in March, Canon said, and will be completed by July.

The W6400, which will be installed in over 500 OfficeMax Print and Document Service (PDS) Centers nationwide throughout the summer, is capable of producing prints up to 24 inches wide. It uses pigment-based ink with droplets as small as 4-picoliters for a resolution of 2,400 by 1,200.

The printer ships bundled with photo-poster software with templates and royalty-free images for creating graphics.

Canon had pitched an earlier model of its wide-format inkjet printer (the W6200) to retailers in 2004, arguing that the growing base of digital camera owners would be interested in a wider array of photo output, such as posters and large-format calendars.
