Office Depot Adding Kindle

Boca Raton, Fla. – Office Depot will add Amazon’s Kindle to
its e-book reader assortment on Sept. 25.

The No. 2 office-supply chain will become the sixth national
retailer and the last of its two category rivals to offer the best-selling
device.

Target, Best Buy and Staples began carrying the Kindle last
October, while Toys “R” Us and OfficeMax added it to their e-reader assortments
this summer.

Like its predecessors, Office Depot is only authorized to
sell Kindle through its brick-and-mortar stores. The retailer will also carry a
full range of Kindle accessories, including cases and chargers, which join its
current lineup of e-readers by Aluratek, Pandigital and Sony.

“We are thrilled to bring Office Depot customers this
lightweight, portable, easy-to-read device that allows them to get all the
books and news they want, when and where they want them,” said Farla Efros, the
chain’s interim head of merchandising.

Added Amazon Kindle VP Mike McKenna: “We’re excited that
Office Depot is now offering its customers a new way to discover Kindle.”
