Nikon Announces 4 Coolpix Digicams

8/30/2007 08:52:00 AM Eastern

Melville, N.Y. — Nikon introduced four additions to the Coolpix line of digital cameras.

Part of the Life family, the 7-megapixel L14 and 8-megapixel L15 feature an enhanced face-recognition function, and they incorporate the company’s Expeed advanced image processing system “for enhanced speed and brilliant color reproduction,” said Nikon.

Both offer in-camera red-eye fix and 15 different scene modes, and the L15 also features active full-time Optical Vibration Reduction image stabilization, which is designed to compensate for camera shake and minimize the instances of blurry images.

The L14 has a 2.4-inch LCD screen while the L15’s measures 2.8 inches. Both cameras have the following features: PictBridge compatibility, 3x optical zoom, ISO 1,000 and a stop-motion feature.

The L14 will have a $149 suggested retail while the L15 will be $179. Both are scheduled to become available next month.

Nikon also announced the 8.1-megapixel S51c and S51 digital cameras. The S51c can send images via email through Wi-Fi, and it also supports My Picturetown, the company’s photo sharing and storage service.

Using My Picturetown, users can email pictures, publish pictures to Flickr, and link their photos to blogs and social networking sites. Each S51c ships with a six-month complimentary T-Mobile HotSpot Wi-Fi service for digital cameras, allowing the user to send images and videos to My Picturetown from more than 8,200 T-Mobile hot spots.

Both cameras feature 3x zoom Nikkor glass lens, 3-inch LCD screen with 160-degree viewing angle, Expeed image-processing system, an Optical Vibration Reduction (VR) image stabilization system, in-camera red-eye fix, a face-priority AF feature and 1,600 ISO.

The S51 ($279) has the same features and form as the S51c ($329) but does not have its wireless transfer capabilities. Both are scheduled to become available in September.
