New Flash Products Cater to Demanding DigiCams

New York – Two new flash memory-based products were announced today, aimed at the higher resolution, memory intensive-digital-camera market.

Alera Technologies launched its new Digital Photo Copy Cruiser, a portable device that copies digital photos directly from camera memory cards to CDs without a computer. The unit supports CompactFlash Type I and II, SD, MMC, Smart Media, Memory Stick/Memory Stick Pro and Micro Drive.

The Digital Photo Copy Cruiser is also equipped with a USB 2.0 port so it can be connected to a computer and used as a 36x CD recorder. It is shipping now with Ahead Nero CD recording software and Ulead Photo Explorer imaging software, for an estimated street price of $229.

SimpleTech introduced two new high capacity SD cards into its ProX line, a 256MB and 512MB card featuring data transfer rates up to 10MB per second.

The ProX SD cards feature a ‘write protect’ switch on the side of the card to prevent accidental overwriting of data. The 256MB card will have a suggested retail price of $159 and the 512MB card will retail for a suggested $299. Both are shipping immediately.
