Navigon Ships PND With Lifetime Traffic Updates

Chicago — Navigon announced pricing for its first two personal navigation devices (PNDs) in the United States, which are among the first to offer free real-time traffic for the lifetime of the product.

Originally announced in March and shipping this month are the Navigon 5100 and 7100, with the latter available for pre-order at Amazon.com and at other top CE retailers in September.

Both models offer a new feature called “Reality View” that provides a 3D realistic view of complicated highway intersections, showing the various lanes and highway signs.

The 5100 has a 3.5-inch screen, preloaded maps of North America, pronunciation of street names for upcoming turns and Zagat Guide, in addition to lifetime traffic at a suggested-$499. The step-up model 7100 has a 4.3-inch screen and adds Bluetooth for hands-free calling from a cellphone at a suggested price of $649.
