Motorola Mobility Loss Widens In Q1

Libertyville, Ill. - Consolidated first-quarter sales at Motorola Mobility were up 2 percent to $3.1 billion, but the company's consolidated net loss widened to $86 million from a year-ago net loss of $81 million.

The losses follow a full-year fiscal 2011 net loss of $249 million, which was up from 2010's $86 million loss.

In mobile devices, first-quarter revenues grew 3 percent to $2.2 billion, but mobile operating losses grew to $121 million from a year-ago operating loss of $89 million. The mobile division shipped 8.9 million devices, including 5.1 million smartphones.

The company's home segment, which includes settop boxes and video-transmission infrastructure,  posted a 2 percent decline in revenues to $884 million, but operating earnings improved to $68 million from a year-ago $53 million.
