Microsoft Offers LifeCams To System Builder Channel

Redmond, Wash. — Microsoft today announced it will offer the following five LifeCam Web cams for sale to the system builder channel for the first time, beginning Nov. 1.

The five are the:

  • LifeCam VX-6000 (for desktops)
  • LifeCam VX-3000 (for desktops)
  • LifeCam VX-1000 (for desktops)
  • LifeCam NX-6000 (for notebooks)
  • LifeCam NX-3000 (for notebooks)

According to a release, the cameras are closely integrated with Windows Live Messenger. They are said to let users easily connect for video and voice calls with a variety of optimizations for Windows Live including:

  • a Windows Live call button which, according to a release, “allows users to open their Contact Picker (a tool showing which contacts are currently online) with one touch so they can quickly initiate video calls;”
  • one-touch photo swap capabilities that allow users to swap photos from their PCs during a video call
  • LifeCam Dashboard, which “integrates full LifeCam navigational controls (pan, tilt, zoom, face tracking and video effects) within the Windows Live Messenger interface” for a seamless navigation experience; and
  • “one-touch blogging” that “lets users immediately post photos to their Windows Live Spaces site.”

A company release also noted that the LifeCams are compatible with Microsoft Office Communicator.
