Merged Sirius/XM To Get XM Name?

New York — An FCC public notice seems to indicate that XM Satellite Radio will be the name of the entity that emerges from the proposed merger of Sirius Satellite Radio and XM, but XM denies it.
In a public notice establishing a July 9-24 comment period for the merger proposal, the FCC said that “a wholly owned subsidiary of Sirius, Vernon Merger Corp., will be merged with and into XM, with XM being the surviving entity of this subsidiary merger.”
An XM spokesman, however, contended that “marketing and branding decisions, such as the name, have not yet been disclosed.”
If the merged entity is named XM, it would mark the second name change for Sirius, which was known as Satellite CD Radio before it launched its first satellite.
The FCC notice also said that the surviving entity will be controlled by a new board of directors “selected by both Sirius and XM, and its equity ownership will be represented equally by former shareholders of XM and Sirius prior to the merger.”
