Memorex Unveils New USB Drives

Cerritos, Calif. — Memorex updated its TravelDrive line of USB 2.0 flash drives with a smaller design and blue wraparound LED light.

The drives will also get a pen-like cap, which when removed can be placed on the other end of the drive so it won’t be misplaced.

The new drive, which is 30 percent smaller than its predecessor, also features a reinforced aluminum lanyard connection and an ergonomic grip.

Memorex will ship TravelDrive’s in capacities from 256MB to 2GB this month. The 256MB drive will retail for an estimated $39.99, the 512MB for $59.99, the 1GB for $99.99, and the 2GB will sell for an estimated $199.99.

According to the NPD Group, close to 7.6 million USB flash drives were sold in the U.S. in 2004 — a growth of 280 percent. The market is expected to surge to an estimated $2.7 billion in sales — or 78 million units — in 2008 according to Santa Clara Consulting Group.
