ship its first Universal A/V Blu-ray Disc player this month offering a
promotional incentive developed in tandem with Reprise Records and rock icon

purchasers of
its MVP881 Blu-ray Disc player will receive a special sampler disc of Neil
Young’s songs in a 96khz/24 bit stereo PCM Blu-ray Disc mix. The songs were
taken from the musician’s recently issued “Neil Young Archives Volume 1”
10-disc Blu-ray boxed set.
The MVP881 ($8,000 suggested retail) is McIntosh’s first
Universal A/V Blu-ray Disc player, and was designed to play most CD-sized music
and video disc formats, in addition to Blu-ray video and music discs.
Appropriately, Young has released some of his music in many of those various
formats, as well. So, those Neil Young treasures in past disc formats (remember
DVD-Audio) you may have acquired won’t be obsolete just yet.
The in-package promotional disc, called “Disc Zero,”
features selected Neil Young tracks and a coupon (valid through 2011) offering
a $25 discount on the purchase of the full boxed set.
McIntosh president Charlie Randall noted: “Both McIntosh and Neil
Young share a longstanding devotion to high-quality sound, and we’ve both been
strong advocates of Blu-ray, which offers music lovers a brand new level of
audio quality and performance.”
“Neil Young Archives Volume 1” was produced by the artist himself
and covers the period from his earliest recordings with the Squires in
Winnipeg, Manitoba, in 1963, through his classic 1972 album, “Harvest.” The
boxed set includes studio and live tracks of the Buffalo Springfield; Crosby,
Stills, Nash & Young; and Neil Young with Crazy Horse.
A full-length version of Young’s movie “Journey Through the Past”
is also included along with a 238-page hardbound “journal” including Young’s
childhood photos, memorabilia, clippings and recollections.
The MVP881 BR supports BD-Live Blu-ray Profile 2.0 Web-enabled
features and will play back SACDs, DVD Audio discs, standard CDs and DVDs, and
Blu-ray Discs.
The “dreadnaught style” component features custom fabricated
steel and aluminum casework with unique, compartmentalized sub structures that
inhibit resonance while shielding sensitive audio circuits, the company said.
An all-metal disc mechanism set in a heavy, damped base is quiet-running
and produces exceptionally accuracy. An SD card reader, an RS232C interface and
an Ethernet connection are provided for BD-Live content and future software
updates.
