McIntosh Enters Video Category

High-end audio systems manufacturer McIntosh Laboratory will use CEDIA Expo to unveil its first line of McIntosh-branded video products, including a 1,080p DLP front projector, companion video processor and matching audio/video control center.

The projector, model MDLP1, features the latest-generation Texas Instrument single-chip 1,920 by 1,080p DMD and advanced processing circuitry. The unit incorporates two full 1,080p HDMI native inputs, and when used in conjunction with McIntosh’s new VP1000 video processor, the MDLP1 provides scaling up to and including 1080p resolution on any video signal source.

Other inputs include component video, six S-video and six composite inputs, all of which are available simultaneously, McIntosh said.

The companion VP1000 video processor, which is sold in a package with the MDLP1, was designed as a line-rate scaler between video source components and higher resolution displays such as plasma, LCD, DLP and HD video displays.

A two-zone processor, the VP1000 features dual scalers, allowing users to make image adjustments from many separate sources to two different displays in independent zones.

The VP1000 performs video adjustment functions such as color, sharpness and contrast. The VP1000’s video inputs include four HDMI, six component, six S-video and six composite, outputs include composite, S-video, component and HDMI up to 1,080p.

An RS-232 port allows control of other systems, and a large 2-by-20 character alphanumeric fluorescent display and advanced on-screen display setup menus.

A dedicated remote control, model UEI HR057, combines the functionality of the VP1000 and MDLP1. The VP1000 will ship with ceiling mounting bracket.

To compliment the components, McIntosh is offering the AP1000 Audio Control Center to provide a “two-box A/V solution.”

The control center features a dedicated interface port for the VP1000. The combination of the two processors enables total video switching and processing of the VP1000 through the AP1000 Audio Control Center.

With the AP1000, users also enjoy the benefits of an LCD front-panel video display for system control and to monitor live video. Also included are Ethernet and USB connections for third-party control and update, a next-generation TI chip set for DSP audio processing and 12 audio inputs.

“Integration of audio and video in a total home entertainment system is the driving force behind today’s high-end consumer electronics marketplace,” stated McIntosh president Charlie Randall. “Our new video projector and companion processor reflect all the ideals that have earned McIntosh our near mythic status among audiophiles over the years.”
