McIntosh Celebrates Tube Amp’s 50th Anniversary

Binghamton, N.Y. –
McIntosh will celebrate the 50th anniversary of one of its most famous
products, the MC275 tube power amp, with the launch of an updated
limited-edition MC275.

The 50th
anniversary amp will be available in December at a suggested $6,500 with
commemorative book and deluxe packaging. It will feature gold-tone chassis to
mark the product’s golden anniversary and incorporate the original’s 1961 tube
circuit design. Modern enhancements will include a multi-colored LED display
and High Speed Sentry Monitor circuit, which automatically turns the amp off if
any tube wears out. Also new is a Power Control input and output, enabling on-off
operation to be controlled by a simple cable connection to any McIntosh preamp
or processor.

The changes add “modern
convenience and performance enhancements without altering the smooth, clean
sound character that has made the MC275 famous for the past 50 years,” the
company said.

Linda Passaro,
global VP of sales and marketing, said the original “reinvented the art and
science of quality music reproduction” and that many of the original amps are
still in use.

McIntosh was
founded in 1949 and is currently owned by D&M Holdings.
