Logitech Enters AirPlay Speaker Market

Fremont, Calif. – Logitech plans
April shipments of its first AirPlay-equipped tabletop speaker, the
$399-suggested Logitech UE (Unlimited Ears) Air Speaker with embedded Wi-Fi.

The two-way piano-black speaker
with curved styling also docks with and charges an iPad, iPhone, iPod Touch or
iPod Classic via a front-panel pop-out dock.

To connect the speaker to a home’s Wi-Fi
network, users dock their portable Apple device, follow onscreen instructions
to download the Logitech UE Air app, and enter their Wi-Fi network password.
After the one-time setup process, any iPhone 4S, iPhone 4, iPhone 3G S, iPod
Touch (second, third or fourth generation), iPad, iPad 2 or new iPad with iOS
4.2 or later will instantly connect to the speaker wirelessly, as will any networked
Mac or PC with iTunes 10.1 or later, the company said.

The speaker comes with IR remote and 3.5mm
aux-in to connect and play back music from any other portable device. Other
specifications were unavailable.
