Linksys Announces iPhone VoIP Portfolio, Adds Skype Phones

Irvine, Calif. — Linksys will re-christen its current Internet telephony offerings under the new iPhone moniker, the company announced yesterday.

While the iPhone line will largely comprise products already announced and in the channel, Linksys did introduce two new models for use with Skype’s PC VoIP service.

The CIT400 is a dual-mode DECT handset that connects directly to a phone line and a broadband modem or router for making Skype calls with the PC off. The phone supports Skype’s calling features and displays contacts on a color LCD screen.

It will ship this month for a suggested retail of $179.

The WIP320 is a wireless 802.11g phone for placing Skype calls on home networks and free hot spots. The $199-suggested handset is the company’s first Skype Wi-Fi phone.

The company’s existing VoIP products — including handsets for Yahoo! Messenger and SIP-based consumer-programmable models — will also feature the “iPhone” branding going forward, the company said.
