Linear Buys Panamax

Carlsbad, Calif. — Linear continued to pursue its acquisition strategy with the purchase of Panamax, the maker of surge-protection and power-conditioning equipment. No terms were disclosed.

In recent years, Linear acquired multiple custom-installation suppliers, including distributed-A/V supplier ChannelPlus, multiroom-A/V equipment company ELAN Home Systems, intercom and central vacuum supplier M&S, component-mounting-equipment supplier OmniMount, structured-wiring company OpenHouse, custom speaker and electronics supplier SpeakerCraft and IR-distribution supplier Xantech.

Linear’s parent, privately held Nortek, offers products and systems for commercial, industrial and residential applications. It is a worldwide supplier of wireless residential security systems, intercoms, garage door operators, gate operators, short and long-range radio remote controls and medical/emergency reporting systems.

“We are pleased that Panamax is joining our other leading brands for professional installers of home theater and multiroom audio/video systems,” said Linear’s president Grant Rummell.

Panamax’s president Bill Pollock saw advantages in being part of a “a strong group.” The advantages include “a world-class electronics manufacturing operation” that “will increase our ability to bring new and innovative products to our global customer base,” he said.
