LG Unveils Glasses-Free 3D Smartphone

Spain - LG formally unveiled its first smartphone with glasses-free 3D display
and 3D video capture during the Mobile World Congress here.

Android-based LG Optimus 3D will join the 3D-capable LG Optimus Pad, which was previously
and will be available in the U.S. as T-Mobile's 3D G-Slate, due
in the spring with 8.9-inch 3D display that requires the use of 3D glasses.

Optimus 3D phone features dual-core 1GHz OMAP4 processor and dual-lens camera
that enables users to capture photos and videos in 3D for viewing on its 4.3-inch
WVGA display. It's said to offer four times more video decoders than competing
designs. Other features include HDMI output and DLNA certification. Additional
details were unavailable.

G-Slate tablet for T-Mobile's 4G network captures 3D video in 720p for viewing
with 3D glasses on the device's 8.9-inch 720p display. The tablet's rear-facing
stereoscopic video camera will also capture non-3D 1080p, and stored 1080p
content can be displayed on a TV connected to the tablet's HDMI output. The
device, which will be the first tablet for both T-Mobile and LG, features the
tablet-optimized Android 3.0 (Honeycomb) operating system.
