LG Plans Oct. Shipping For New Blu-ray Deck

9/29/2008 02:00:00 AM Eastern

LG will ship its newly launched BD300 Blu-ray Disc player that has the ability to access and playback Netflix instant-streaming video content in October.

During CEDIA Expo, held here earlier this month, LG also revealed its new deck will carry a $399 suggested retail.

The BD300 is LG's third-generation Blu-ray Disc player. The premium positioned Blu-ray player incorporates BD-Live capability with the addition of a 1GB USB thumb drive for persistent memory and will be the first integrated device to access Netflix instant video-streaming service.

In addition to LG, Roku markets a $99 set-top box that accesses the Netflix streaming library, and Microsoft plans to add the capability to its Xbox 360 game console later this year.

The BD300 player will playback Blu-ray Discs in full HD and will play and up-convert SD DVDs to 1080p resolution. Netflix movies will be displayed in native SD resolution directly from the streaming service.

The Netflix instant-streaming video service offers more than 12,000 movies and TV episodes in standard-definition format online for virtually instant playback.
