LG Hits Sony With ITC Complaint

Englewood Cliffs, N.J. –

LG
Electronics

filed patent-infringement claims with the

International Trade Commission (ITC)

against
Sony Friday, looking to block the sale of Bravia LCD TVs and PlayStation3
gaming consoles in the United States.

LG also reportedly filed similar civil suits against Sony in federal
court in California, looking for cash compensation.

The moves follow similar actions

Sony

brought to the ITC against LG on Dec. 28, 2010, claiming that a number of LG
cellphones violate seven Sony patents.

Sony has also targeted LG Blu-ray Disc players in a separate
civil lawsuit.

In its complaint with the ITC against Sony, LG said Bravia LCD
TVs infringe four LG patents relating to how the sets receive and process
digital TV signals. It also claimed that the PlayStation3 gaming console, which
employs a Blu-ray Disc drive, infringe four patents LG holds on various
technologies used in Blu-ray Disc players.

The Blu-ray patent complaint covers technology for processing
multiple data streams, and for reproducing data stored on read-only devices.

Meanwhile, the LG phones named in Sony’s patent claims include
the Lotus Elite, Neon, Remarq, Rumor 2 and Xenon.
