LG Display To Unveil ‘Trumotion’ 480Hz During CES

Seoul, South Korea — LG Display said it will unveil at International CES “the world’s first “Trumotion 480Hz” LCD TV panel, which has a 480 refresh rate per second, enabling clear reproduction of ultra-high-speed images.

The company said the breakthrough comes from the use a scanning backlight that enables a backlight to be repeatedly turned on and off to reduce motion blur. When combined with the company’s 240Hz technology, the display can refresh 480 images per second.

The “Trumotion 480Hz” display also features a lower motion picture response time (MPRT) of 4ms, eliminating motion blurring for fast moving images and enabling a realistic, crystal clear picture. The display is also said to make dark images darker and bright images brighter than conventional LCD systems. The technology also reduces energy consumption by adjusting the backlight brightness, the company said.

“The world’s first Trumotion 480Hz LCD TV panel is planned to hit the market in the second half of 2009. LG Display will provide its customers with unique, high-end products while delivering crisp picture quality for fast moving images,” stated Eddie Yeo, LG Display TV business unit executive VP.

LG Display will present a technology showcase in a private room at the Bellagio Hotel during International CES.
