Lexington, Ky. — Lexmark giveth and Lexmark taketh away. The printer company introduced a new photo printer and a new all-in-one device, while recalling several laser printers it sold directly and under the Dell and IBM brands.

The P915 Home Photo Printer and the Lexmark P6250 Home Photo Center All-in-One will ship this month for a suggested $149 and $249, respectively.

Both models produce borderless photo prints and employ the company’s Evercolor six-color “hybrid ink system” that, according to Lexmark, combines the broad color gamut of dyes with the permanence of pigment inks. The units are PictBridge-enabled and feature card slots for printing directly from CompactFlash Type I & II, Memory Stick (PRO and Duo with an adapter), SD/MMC, SmartMedia, Microdrive and xD-Picture Cards.

The units also feature a 2.5-inch color LCD. Through the monitor, users can view a timer clock that alerts them to how long each print will take, a video demonstration to aid in ink cartridge replacement, and a preview mode to see how a photo will look on paper.

The P6250 all-in-one features blue LED lights to remind users where the top left corner of a document should be placed when scanning. It also features an embedded storage compartment for a replacement ink cartridge.

The P915 can produce 22 pages per minute (ppm) black with an optional cartridge and 15 ppm in color.

In related Lexmark news, the company announced a recall for the Lexmark E232, E232t, E330, E332n and E332tn laser printers, which were also sold under the Dell and IBM brands.

According to a company statement, the printers were recalled because they “can short-circuit, posing an electrical shock hazard to consumers.” No injuries have been reported, but Lexmark asserted it was conducting the recall to pre-empt the possibility of injury.
