Latest Harman Merger Combines JBL, Infinity

10/04/2002 03:22:00 PM Eastern

Woodbury, N.Y. - In separate actions, the Harman Consumer Group (HCG) merged its JBL and Infinity home-speaker operations into a single division, and it announced a new senior management team for its recently created Harman Specialty Group (HSG), which combines the Lexicon and Madrigal groups.

The new JBL-Infinity division, called the Harman Loudspeaker Group, is headed by president Paul Bente, who was president of JBL Consumer Products. He will oversee engineering, manufacturing, sales, and marketing.

HCG president Gina Harman said the recent organizational changes "will enable our various divisions to operate more efficiently and profitably." She pointed out that the JBL and Infinity operations already "shared many design, engineering and manufacturing resources."

Additional details of the merger were unavailable. In a separate change, Harman announced a new senior management team for the specialty group, created in July to combine Lexicon's consumer and pro audio operations and Madrigal's operations. Madrigal offers audio under the AudioAccess, Madrigal, Mark Levinson, Proceed, and Revel brands. The division recently sold off its Madrigal Imaging video operation.

Despite a shared senior management team, Lexicon and Madrigal will maintain separate distribution and engineering facilities, Harman said. "Although the senior management team will oversee the operations of both companies, our team understands the importance of preserving the unique qualities of each."

She called Lexicon a leader in consumer and pro digital audio, while Madrigal is positioned as a premier supplier of high-end analog audio electronics and speakers.

The HSG management team consists of president Wayne Morris; Madrigal president Phil Muzio; Cairann Gallagher, senior VP of finance and administration; Wayne Hall, senior VP of operations and new products; Mark Glazier, senior VP of consumer sales; Brian Zolner, VP of Lexicon professional sales; Andrew Clark, marketing VP; Al Flint, Lexicon engineering VP; and Ed McMurray, Madrigal engineering VP.
