Land Rover Commits To HD Radio

New York – Land Roverbecame the 13th automaker to commit to HD Radio, announcing here at the New York Auto Show that it will incorporate the digital radio technology as an option in its entire 2010 Land Rover and Range Rover lineup in the 2009 calendar year.

The models include the LR2, LR3, Range Rover and Range Rover Sport, said HD Radio developer iBiquity Digital.

In recent weeks, Mercedes announced it would expand the availability of optional HD Radio to 11 models in the 2010 model year, from the current five models, making HD Radio available in the majority of the automaker’s U.S. vehicles.

Range Rover and Mercedes are among the 13 automakers committed to offering factory-installed HD Radio as standard or optional equipment in more than 70 vehicle lines, iBiquity said. The others are Audi, BMW, Ford, Hyundai, Kia, Jaguar, Lincoln, Mercury MINI, Scion and Volvo.

Here’s what’s available and coming in factory-installed HD Radio:

Audi:For calendar 2010 availability, Audi plans to offer HD Radio as a factory-installed option in many 2011-model-year vehicles.

BMW: The automaker has begun outfitting its flagship 7 Series and premium 6 Series with HD Radio technology as standard equipment. The company continues to offer HD Radio as an option in all other models: the 1, 3, and 5 Series and the X3, X5, X6 and Z4.

Ford: In the 2010 calendar year, Ford-branded vehicles will offer HD Radio as factory-installed standard and optional equipment in select models.

Hyundai: HD Radio is available as an option in the Genesis Sedan and will be available in additional models in the 2010 calendar year.

Jaguar:The Jaguar XK will be the first Jaguar with HD radio in dealer showrooms in mid-2009, followed later in the year by the XE. The technology will be available as standard equipment across the brand’s line.

Kia: The launch begins in the 2010 calendar year in an unspecified number of vehicles.

Lincoln: In the 2010 calendar year, Lincoln-branded vehicles will offer HD Radio as factory-installed standard equipment in select models and optional equipment in select models.

Mercedes: HD Radio is currently available in the M-, R-, GL-, G-Class SUVs and E-Class models. In the 2010 model year, they will be joined by the CL-, CLS-, E-Coupe (formerly CLK), S-, SL- and SLK-Class models, which will be in dealerships by late summer. The technology will be available as part of premium feature packages.

Mercury: In the 2010 calendar year, Mercury-branded vehicles will offer HD Radio as factory-installed standard and optional equipment.

MINIUSA: It’s available as an option in all models.

Volvo: The technology is available in the C30, S40, V50, XC60, V70, C70, XC70, S80, and XC90. It became standard in most models in March andoptional in the others.

As for dealer-installed options, Ford, Lincoln and Mercury began October 2007 to offer a car-dealer-installed add-on “black box” for 19 of 23 model-year 2008 vehicles. The black box is controlled from the in-dash factory radio and is compatible with most of the automaker’s vehicle models from the 2005 to 2007 model years.
