Klipsch Group CEDIA Intros Run Gamut

DENVER — The first active soundbar from Jamo, the first TV-speaker bases from Klipsch and Energy, and an expanded selection of Jamo architectural speakers are turning up at the CEDIA Expo.

The third Klipsch-branded tabletop wireless speaker will also be displayed.

All are brands marketed by Klipsch Group, a wholly owned subsidiary of Voxx International. The products will be displayed in the Klipsch Group’s meeting rooms in the Magnolia hotel.

All products ship in October except for the Jamo custom speakers, which ship in December.

The Jamo soundbar is the Torsten, a 2.1 250-watt model shipping around October at a suggested $799 with curved design, 10-inch outboard long-throw wireless subwoofer, proprietary virtual surround that doesn’t require a room’s side walls to reflect sound, Dolby Digital 5.1 decoding, down-mixing of 5.1 to two channels, optical digital input, analog input, stereo Bluetooth with AptX streaming, and nearfield communications (NFC) technology for tap-to-pair functionality.

It features auto on/off, IR learning to learn a TV remote’s volume control, two 0.75-inch silk-dome tweeters in a wave guide, and four 3-inch IMG midwoofers. It delivers 104dB SPLs and a frequency response of 32Hz to 20kHz.

In TV-speaker bases, Klipsch and Energy will offer their first. Both are three-way models with Bluetooth but not aptX streaming over Bluetooth. The $499 Klipsch SB-120 Sound Base and the more compact $399 Energy Power Base feature Dolby Digital 5.1 decoding, optical digital input, analog input, balanced voicing for music playback, and virtual surround as in the soundbar to expand the front stage and deliver some sounds to the left and right of the listening position. Both lack NFC.

The Klipsch model is rated at 160 watts peak and features two 0.75-inch silk-dome tweeters in 90×90 Tractrix horns, two 3-inch IMG midranges, and two 3×5-inch composite-cone woofers. The base delivers 103dB with a frequency response of 50Hz to 20kHz.

The Energy Power Base features the same inputs and driver complement, excluding the Tractrix horn. The Energy model also delivers 160 watts peak with 103dB SPL, but frequency response is 65Hz to 20kHz.

Under the Jamo brand, the company is expanding the architectural speaker series to lower price points with the four-SKU 200 series. The speakers consists of three in-ceiling speakers and one in-wall speaker, all with flat, flangeless design like their counterparts in the 400 and 600 series. The new series carries over the industrial design of the current series and the use of injection-molded graphite woofers.

The in-wall speaker is a 6.5-inch two-way with 1-inch soft-dome tweeter with 70Hz to 22kHz frequency response and continuous/peak power handling of 55/110 watts.

The in-ceiling models consist of an 8-inch twoway, 6.5-inch two-way, and a 6.5-inch three-way LCR with angled 1.5-inch midrange and angled 1-inch tweeter. The LCR features frequency response of 70Hz to 22kHz and continuous/peak power handling of 55/110 watts.

Separately, Klipsch has developed the third tabletop speaker in the Klipsch-brand Music Center series, which includes the $399 KMC3 AC/DC two-way Bluetooth speaker with AAC and AptX streaming. The series also includes the $2,000 AC-only brushed-aluminum Stadium, shipping in October with Bluetooth aptX and AAC streaming, Wi-Fi-based Apple AirPlay, and built-in DLNA-certified Wi-Fi 802.11b/g transceiver. The tri-amplified three-way system provides for a either a network or direct Wi-Fi connection with Apple and Android devices to stream music. Because of refinements made since it was first announced, bass response now hits 26Hz +/13dB, power output goes to 400 watts, and maximum output goes to 112dB from 110dB.

To this selection, the company is adding the $299 KMC1, an AC/DC Bluetooth model with AptX. It’s the first KMC model with NFC. Its lithium-ion battery lasts for eight hours.

The KMC1’s soft-touch ABS cabinet measures 4.3 inches by 10.2 inches by 3.4 inches. The driver complement consists of two 2.5-inch drivers and two passive radiators. Amp output is 2×10 watts RMS or 40 watts peak. It delivers 102dB SPL and frequency response of 65Hz to 18kHz.
