Kindle App Readied For Windows Smartphones

Seattle – Amazon later this year
will launch a Kindle reading app for Windows Phone 7 smartphones, the company
said without announcing a specific date.

Microsoft demonstrated the Kindle
for Windows Phone 7 app today during the annual Microsoft Professional Developers
Conference at Microsoft’s Bellevue, Wash., headquarters.

Amazon already offers Kindle apps
for the iPhone, iPad, Android smartphones and BlackBerry smartphones. The
Windows Phone 7 app will add such new features as personalized book
recommendations on the Kindle app home screen and the ability to email a link
to the book that the user is currently reading or to any book in the user’s
library.

The new app, optimized for the
Windows Phone 7 user interface, will include Amazon’s Whispersync technology, which
syncs the user’s place in a book across multiple devices, including the
company’s Kindle, Kindle 3G and Kindle DX e-readers and Macs and PCs.

The apps functions include
ability to buy books from within the app and choose five font sizes, three
background colors, and portrait or landscape mode.

Amazon claimed the app would be “the
first major eBook application available for Windows Phone 7.”
