Key Digital Focuses On HDMI At CEDIA Expo

Key Digital, a total custom installations systems solutions provider, will offer four HDMI–HDCP training seminars at CEDIA 2005, here.

Key Digital’s founder and president Mike Tsinberg will conduct the sessions, which will focus on the HDMI digital interface that expands DVI to support both HDTV video and audio.

The seminars will cover everything from choosing the right HDMI cable, to future-proofing current installations.

All sessions will take place in the Hyatt Executive Boardroom, Salon A. Two sessions will be offered on Thursday from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. and from 2 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. Morning sessions will also be offered from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. on Friday and Saturday.

Key Digital will also present a range of new home theater installation solutions. New products include the Matrix Switch 8×8 and Matrix Switch 8×8 Plus Video/Audio matrix switchers.

Both provide seamless and clear matrix switching of up to eight input sources out to eight displays in any HDTV or SDTV video format. Connections include component video (YPbPr), S-Video and composite video. The latter two can be converted to component video signals with an additional scaler card.

The matrix switchers also handle digital PCM audio and analog stereo left and right audio.

The Matrix Switch 8×8 Plus ($4,999 suggested retail) supports a base of eight different input sources switched to any eight outputs (8×8); it can be expanded in increments of eight to support 16×16, 24×24 and 32×32 switching.

The Matrix Switch 8×8 ($4,499) supports the base 8×8, and can be expanded to support 16×16, 16×24 and 16×32.

In addition, the company will present its HDMI 4×1 Switcher, which is billed as a high-quality HDMI switcher supporting HDCP copy protection and offering switching from any of four HDMI inputs to one output.

The device will scale 480i, 480p, 720p 1,080i video inputs to the native resolution of any display, at 60 Hz and 50 Hz, using Key Digital’s Clear Matrix Pro technology.

The HDMI 4×1 — shipping now at a $1,799 suggested retail — can be used to support a wide range of devices with HDMI or DVI outputs like DVD players, satellite boxes, HD DVRs, set-top boxes and PCs.

Key Digital will also show an HDMI cable extender called HDMI Blaster — shipping now at a $249 suggested retail.

The device will transparently extend the lengths of HDMI cable runs, delivery clear sound and video images The smart adapter draws its own power from the HDMI signal, eliminating the need to provide external power to the unit.

The intelligent circuitry built into the HDMI Blaster can even support 1,080p, so a user can enjoy the benefits of true HDTV.

Each unit effectively doubles the length of an HDMI cable run, up to a total of 150 feet (two 75-foot cables) for 1,080i and 720p, and 60 feet (two 30-foot cables) for 1,080p.
