JVC Joins Blu-ray Patent Pool

New York – JVC Kenwood has joined the

One-Blue

product licensing program and
patent pool as a licensor of Blu-ray Disc technology, the group said Monday.

JVC Kenwood is one of a number of technological contributors
to the Blu-ray Disc standard and joins such other licensors as Cyberlink,
Hewlett-Packard, Hitachi, Panasonic, Philips and Sony.

JVC Kenwood

adds valuable essential patents to the program, further underlining the
one-stop-shop concept of One-Blue,” Roel Kramer, One-Blue CEO, said in a
statement on the move.

“JVC Kenwood has helped to invent and develop the Blu-ray
Disc format in the past and currently sells many Blu-ray prerecorded Discs and
unique Blu-ray Disc recorders for consumer and professional use,” said Tetsuro Fuse,
JVC Kenwood intellectual property operation strategic research and development
for Blu-ray Disc products.

One-Blue administers the licensing program for Blu-ray
Disc patents and is the joint licensing agent of its licensors.

For hardware and software products, the product license
covers Blu-ray Disc, DVD and CD essential patents; for disc

products, the product license
covers Blu-ray Disc essential patents.

One-Blue is a patent pool designed to reduce costs, and
fosters fair use of the patent system in the entire optical disc sector, the
group said.
