JVC Intros High-End Camcorder

Wayne, N.J. — JVC will ship its first HD camcorder capable of recording in the native format of Apple’s Final Cut Pro video editing software.

In addition to Apple’s MOV files, the unit records in MP4 for other non-linear editing systems, JVC said.

The SDHC-based GY-HM100 ProHD features a 3-CCD imager and a 35MBps MPEG-2 encoder for recording at 1080p, 720p (19/35MBps) or 1080i at 25MBps. It can also record 2-megapixel still images.

Additional features include a 10x optical Fujinon lens with manual and automatic focus and aperture control, JVC’s focus assist feature and a built-in lens cover. The HM100 offers dual SDHC card slots with the ability to automatically record on a second card when the first one fills up, along with two-channel audio recording with manual level controls and a 2.8-inch LCD.

The camcorder works with a wireless remote and ships in April for $3,995.
