Tel Aviv — Startup ICVT, developer of the high-quality image compression format for iOS devices, said Friday it has developed a new version of the software to manage ultra-large image files on Mac desktops.
Using the software, photos up to 28 megapixels can be optimized to free up hard-drive space.
ICVT, based here, said the new 28-megapixel upgrade of JPEGmini for Mac can now optimize photos shot with 99 percent of currently available camera models.
In addition, ICVT introduced JPEGmini Lite for Mac, a free version of JPEGmini for Mac allowing optimization of up to 20 photos per day.
Users may upgrade from JPEGmini Lite to the full version JPEGmini for Mac via an in-app purchase, the company said.
JPEGmini Lite is available for free at the Mac App Store through JPEGmini.com/Mac.
ICTV is providing a special $9.99 introductory offer for the full app version, which normally runs $19.99, through Dec. 24.
The offer is available online either at the Mac App Store, or through the JPEGmini Lite in-app purchase upgrade.
JPEGmini for Mac enables quickly optimizing full photo albums by dragging them onto the app.
The optimized photos retain the full quality and resolution of the original images at more manageable file sizes, enabling easier and faster sharing with friends and family via email or online services.
Users can also choose to optimize their entire iPhoto library, or a complete internal or external drive.

ICTV also recently introduced a JPEGMini-based iPhone app supporting up to 28-megapixel panorama images.
The free app, which ICVT calls Beamr, enables HD-quality photo sharing of multiple photos.
While other photo sharing apps significantly reduce resolution and file size during transmission — some retaining only 2.5 percent of the original pixels for a Facebook posting — the Beamr app is able to retain a high-quality image in a small form factor using ICTV’s science media-optimization technology.
No registration is required for the sender or receiver.
