JBL Ships Speakers With Weave Design

2/08/2011 03:05:34 PM Eastern

Stamford, Conn. - JBL has begun
shipping its Studio 1 series of in-room speakers, which feature a new
industrial "weave" design that simulates large woven straps on the speakers'
baffles.

The series, originally
announced
last September for late-2010 availability, has been expanded to
include a subwoofer with the weave design, which also appears in the JBL On
Stage IV and On Stage Micro III iPod/iPhone-docking speaker systems. The design
will also appear in additional JBL products in the future.

The Studio 1 speakers are the first
in-room cabinet speakers launched by the brand in a few years, a spokesperson
noted.

The series consists of a JBL Studio
120c center-channel speaker at $169 each, a 130 bookshelf speaker at $299 each,
180 floorstanding speaker at $349 each, a 190 floorstander at $449 each, and
the 150P powered subwoofer at $399 each. All feature silver-tinted black vinyl
finish.

 In the speakers, JBL is
bringing two driver technologies down in price point. Tweeters with bi-radial
wave guides, which deliver wide smooth dispersion and a wider sweet spot, have
been available previously in JBL speakers at twice the price in the LS series,
which has been marketed by the Harman High Performance AV group. Ceramic metal
matrix diaphragm (CMMD) dome tweeters, which eliminate unwanted resonances,
also haven't been available in JBL speakers at these price points before, the
company said.

The top-of-the-series Studio
190 tower is a 3.5-way speaker with dual 6.5-inch woofers, 4-inch midrange
and 1-inch tweeter. The Studio 180 three-way tower features one 6.5-inch
woofer, 4-inch midrange and 1-inch tweeter. The Studio 130 two-way
bookshelf speaker features a 4-inch woofer and 1-inch tweeter.

The Studio 120c center channel speaker
features 2.5-way design with dual 4-inch woofers and one 1-inch tweeter. And
the 150P 300-watt bass-reflex subwoofer features 10-inch down-firing
driver, 300-watt RMS amp, ported design and adjustable crossover frequency.
