iRiver, long known for its portable audio devices, is expanding its selection of MP3 players and portable media players (PMPs) while broadening its portfolio to include its first two personal navigation devices (PNDs), its first handheld computer and first home-media center device under new worldwide CEO Myoung Woo Lee, the former president of Samsung Electronics America.
The company also plans to show its first PMP that turns into a PND with installation of a GPS-equipped cradle, plus its first three handheld electronic dictionaries.
Here at International CES, the company is launching about 30 SKUs, all but six of them MP3 players or PMPs. Pricing and most shipment dates were not available by press time.
Among the introductions is the UNIT 2, a speaker-equipped set-top box with FM, CD/DVD and 30GB DVR/media-storing HDD that streams to a handheld portable within the home. It can be controlled from a remote that folds open to reveal more controls and a QWERTY keyboard.
The Spinn PMP with side-mounted cylinder to spin through an onscreen user interface will debut at CES. It is due in May, but a Wi-Fi-equipped version due in September will use Wi-Fi to stream Internet radio programs, download music directly from authorized Web sites and browse the Web. Features include Bluetooth, 30 fps MPEG-4 video, 3.2-inch QVGA screen, FM tuner, flash games and flash 2.0. It will be available in 4GB, 8GB and 16GB flash memory capacities.
The luxury-market-targeted IAMOLED PMP is available in 80GB and 160GB versions with 4.1-inch OLED touchscreen, TV output, FM tuner, flash games, microphone and voice recorder, and SD card slot.
The W7 A/V player has a 3-inch LCD touchscreen, FM tuner, electronic dictionary and SD card slot. It turns into an in-car navigation system when docked with optional car cradle. It’s available with embedded flash memory of 4GB and 8GB.
The P10 A/V player with 1.3-inch 33GB hard drive and 4-inch touchscreen is also part of the line along with the L Player, a small A/V player with 2-inch screen, FM tuner and availability with 1GB, 2GB and 4GB capacities.
The E100 A/V player has built-in stereo speakers, 2.4-inch display, SD card slot and embedded memory capacities of 4GB, 8GB and 16GB.
A second-generation Clix AV player called the Clix+, still uses an AMOLED (active matrix organically light emitting diode) display to deliver a wider viewing angle and reduces power consumption. It will be available in 2GB, 4GB and 8GB capacities.
The A Player II music-only player with credit-card thickness, metal finish, Spin-type controls and FM tuner also serves as a USB memory stick with 2GB, 4GB and 8GB capacities.
The Volcano music-only player, which will debut here, also doubles as a USB stick and comes in the same capacities.
iRiver’s first Disney-branded product features Mickey Mouse’s silhouette and 1GB flash.
Two electronic dictionaries with A/V playback include the D30 with 4.3-inch touchscreen with QWERTY keyboard and the D5 with 3-inch LCD screen. They feature dictionaries that translate 50 languages from one language to another, the company said.
Two GPS-equipped models with 7-inch screens are the NV with integrated digital camera and the M20 with FM transmitter. Both feature SD car slots.
And the Wing Ultra Mobile PC, based on the Windows CE Pro OS. It features foldable design, Wi-Fi, touchscreen with QWERTY keyboard, 4GB flash memory, Web browser, email and VoIP.
