I/O Magic Intros Digital Image Storage Device

Santa Ana, Calif. – Data storage manufacturer I/O Magic took aim at the removable flash memory market with its Digital Photo Library, a 20GB storage device with a 6-in-1 memory card reader which it is positioning as an alternative to buying additional memory cards.

The 2-pound unit is a portable, standalone device that supports Compact Flash, SmartMedia, Memory Stick, SD/MMC and IBM MicroDrive. It has a suggested retail price of $229.99.

According to Paul T. McCauley, VP, marketing for I/O Magic Corp, the device is being pitched to consumers as a means of avoiding buying more flash memory cards. Rather, they can transfer images from their cards to the Photo Library.

‘It’s cost-effective to own the Digital Photo Library because there is no longer a need for digital camera users to purchase multiple memory cards,’ McCauley said.

The Digital Photo Library can store up to 15,000 pictures (at 1.3-megapixels per picture) and connects to a computer via USB for picture transfers. It sports a rechargeable battery than lasts for more than two hours.
