San Francisco — Intel today said its Core 2 Quad Extreme processors will ship for workstations in November with a consumer version to follow in 2007.

The news was released at the Intel Developers Forum, being held here, by CEO Paul Ottellini. The Core 2 Quad Extreme places four processor cores on a single die, doubling what is now available from Intel. The first its Core 2 Quad Extreme processors will sell under Intel Xeon brand, which traditionally are used in servers and high-end workstations.
