IDC Ups PC Shipment Estimate

Framingham, Mass. — International Data Corp. has incrementally bumped up its PC shipment forecast for 2005-2006.

For 2005, total U.S. PC shipments will hit 63 million, an 8 percent increase, with 21.8 million of those being sold to consumers. This figure will climb 8.1 percent to 68.1 million in 2006 with 26.2 million being consumer models.

The research firm readjusted its outlook based on expected solid sales of computers to consumers, with notebook types being the big seller. Desktop PC growth will slip from the mid-single digits to near zero during this period.
