2/15/2011 04:06:40 PM Eastern

Barcelona, Spain - Huawei
unveiled a slimmed-down version of an existing tablet and a new slim smartphone
here at the Mobile World Congress, but U.S. availability wasn't announced.

Both models use the Android OS.

The tablet is the Ideos S7 Slim,
which is slimmer than its predecessor and adds a front-facing video camera for
video chats. Its predecessor, the S7, is available at Best Buy at $299 with
embedded Wi-Fi but no 3G service option. Both feature 7-inch touchscreen and
1GHz Snapdragon processor. Other enhancements in the new model include capacitive
touchscreen instead of resistive touchscreen, 720p HD video capture, and
Android 2.2.

Other features are 512MB of
memory, MicroSD slot, SIM card slot, Bluetooth 2.1, Wi-Fi 802.11b/g/n and WVGA
800 by 480 screen resolution.

The new tablet includes 3G HSUPA
cellular data, but the specific 3G bands supported by the device weren't
identified. It will ship globally in April at pricing that wasn't announced.

As for the new Android phone, it's the Android
2.3-based Ideos X3, a touchscreen-only phone that's only 11.2mm thick, features
3.2-inch HVGA capacitive curved touchscreen, and comes with front-facing
3.2-megapixel camera for video chats. It has 3G HSDPA 7.2Mbps cellular
technology but is banded for the overseas 900/2100MHz 3G bands. Other features
include MicroSD slot supporting 16GB cards, MicroUSB 2.0 port, 3.5mm audio
jack, 802.11b/g/n, stereo Bluetooth 2.1 and FM radio.

The X3 will be available in March in Japan and
other countries excluding the U.S. in midyear.
