Huawei Readies Quad-Core Smartphones

2/27/2012 09:19:06 AM Eastern

Barcelona, Spain - Chinese
supplier Huawei unveiled its first two quad-core smartphones, both
incorporating Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) OS and Huawei-made K3V2
quad-core 1.2GHz/1.5GHz processor.

The D quad and D quad XL, both in the Ascend
series, will be available in multipe markets, including North and South
America, in the second quarter.
A third Ascend series phone, the
dual-core 1.5GHz Ascend D1, will be available in these markets in April.

Huawei didn't specify the 3G or 4G
technologies that the phones would use.

Both quad-core phones offer the same features,
but the Ascend D quad XL comes with larger batter and is slightly thicker. The
10.9mm-thick D quad XL has a 2,500 mAh battery, which delivers two to three
days of normal usage, the company said. The 8.9mm-thick D quad comes with 1,800
mAh battery.

Both models feature 4.5-inch 720p HD screen
with 330 pixels per inch and ability to view content in direct sunlight, the
company said. They also feature 32-bit true color graphic processor, 1080p
video capture, Dolby 5.1 Surround Sound, and a proprietary power-management
system to cut energy consumption up to 30 percent compared to the industry
average for smartphones.

Other features common to both include 8-megapixel
BSI rear-facing camera, 1.3 megapixel front-facing camera, and a touchscreen
design said to "vanish" into the phones' edges to allow for a narrow 64mm body.

The
third phone launched in Barcelona is the Ascend D1, which features 1.5GHz
dual-core CPU and 1,670 mAh battery.

 At International CES, the company
showed
two other Ascend series phones, the P1 and P1 S, both with Android
4.0, dual-core 1.5GHz processor, and 4G 21Mbps HSPA+ technology. Versions with
3G CDMA and 4G LTE were also promised for later in 2012. The P1 S is slimmer
than the Motorola Razr, at 0.263 inches in depth.
